& will there always be rainbow, after the rain?

Hi Everyone, Greeting From Us. Today We're going to post up all our work. Hope you enjoy reading through. =)

Question: Does the Number of Hours spend on using computer affects a Student Results ?

We identified,
Independent Variable as : Hours Spend Using Computer
Dependent Varaible as : Students Results (GPA)
Extravenous Variable as: Age, Sex, Activity, IQ etc.

Our Research Hypothesis is : There is a relationship between Number of hours spend using computer and Students Results
Our Null Hypothesis: There is no relationship between number of hours spend using computer and students Results.

We Decided to collect data through asking participants to do a questionaire Survey.
Our Target Participants are students who study health sciences courses and are year 2and above.

The Following Are questions asked in the Survey Questionaires:

1.) Average hours spent using computer per week (Please Specify the most accurate hours.)

2.) What form of activity you spend most on the computer in a week? (please tick only one)
o Games
o Movies/ Animations
o Msn Chat plus surfing( E.g. Friendster, FaceBook)
o Others (please specify.)

3.) How many hours you spend on the activity a week mentioned in question 2?(Please Tick)
o Less than 7 hours
o 7hours-14hours
o 14 hours – 21 hours
o More than 21hours (please specify)

4.) Current GPA Score for the previous year.

Some Picture that we took.

We Surveyed a total of 30 people. Our Method of Sampling is, Cluster Sampling as we chose to survey only Health Sciences Students. We chose it as every unit has an equal chance of being selected. Thus no biasness will occur.

The Following are the Results we Keyed into the SPSS and we analyse the results.

From this crosstab/scatter plot, we can see that our Pearson’s R is 0.049, which means there is a positive very weak relationship between the 2 variables.(Our P is0.797, n= 30) Alpha is 0.05,thus we need to accept our null hypothesis and reject our research hypothesis. (Since P is lesser than Alpha, we accept our null hypothesis)

From this we can know that the mean is 2.7536. However, it will be a skewed graph. So we decided to use the median:2.845

So we consider people who score>2.85 have a high GPA when people who score <2.85 have low GPA. Lets take a look on what are the activities that people with high GPA usually do on the computer.

GPA Higher or=2.85:

While now we take a look on activites that people with GPA lower then 2.85 normally do.
GPA lower then 2.85:

From the above we analyse that people with GPA of 2.85 and above spend most of their time on Movies and Animations while people with GPA lower then 2.85 spend most of their time on projects.

From our research, we need to accept our null hypothesis and reject our research hypothesis. And therefore there is a very weak positive relationship of our research hypothesis. We can also further find out what are the other factors that causes the weak relationship. We also found that people with higher GPA spend most of the time using computer for movies and animation. While people with lower GPA spend more time doing projects. This finding is very surprsing for the group, as we expected Higher GPA to be associated with Project work, while Lower GPA associated with Games and Movie time.

In conclusion, We have fun doing the project. This project enable us to think critically about the question we need to set for survery. It allow us to put down our differences as we approach people for surveys. It also enhance our understanding on statistic and the SPSS software.

Lastly, We would like to thank the many people whom have help us along the way, be it via surveys, comments. Thank you all for the time spend. And have a nice day !
